When Disaster Strikes, Samaritan Fund Program Shows Up
My Samaritan Fund is a structured way to support employees through medical hardship and unexpected crises.
Medical hardship, natural disasters, and other unexpected crises can create immediate financial pressure for employees and their families.
Through Samaritan Fund Foundation (SFF), organizations of any size can establish their own Samaritan Fund that turns a culture of care into practical support when people need help.
SFF holds and administers the fund, manages private requests for assistance, and handles eligibility review and grant distribution. Employers can offer a meaningful resource to help their employees.
What Is My Samaritan Fund?
Visit Samaritan Fund FoundationMy Samaritan Fund is a charitable fund that can provide financial assistance to people facing qualifying hardships. Contributions are made to a designated fund held by the Samaritan Fund Foundation, which independently reviews requests and distributes grants based on the fund structure and applicable eligibility requirements.
SFF also manages administration, reporting, and employee-facing communication materials. This gives employers a structured way to help people show up for one another while keeping the sensitive work of reviewing requests with the Foundation.
What Is a General Fund?
A General Fund provides an ongoing source of support. Employers may contribute, employees can give through SFF’s online platform, and eligible employees can request assistance when a qualifying need arises. SFF manages application intake, eligibility review, grant distribution, reporting, and confidential communication with applicants.
Individual Support Fund
An Individual Support Fund offers short-term support for a specific person facing an unexpected need. SFF creates a dedicated giving campaign and provides a QR code and donation link so donors can contribute directly to that effort. Employers cannot contribute to an Individual Support Fund, and only employers with a Samaritan Fund Program relationship may initiate one.
Who Is Eligible for Assistance?
Eligibility for My Samaritan Fund depends on the type of fund and the circumstances of the request. For General Fund requests, SFF reviews applications according to established funding criteria and contacts applicants directly for any required documentation. This private review process supports consistency while helping keep sensitive personal information between the applicant and SFF.
Individual Support Funds are created for a specific recipient and do not follow the same qualification criteria as a General Fund. Employers or employees who are unsure which type of support applies can contact the Samaritan Fund Program or visit Samaritan Fund Foundation for guidance.
How to Apply for Help
Employees can request assistance privately through the Samaritan Fund process without going through HR or management. For General Fund assistance, the process typically includes:
-
Submit a request using the Samaritan Fund link provided by your organization.
-
Complete the required authorization form and provide any requested documentation.
-
SFP reviews the request and follows up directly with the applicant as needed.
-
If approved, SFP provides grant funds through a Samaritan Fund Foundation Visa debit card, so the recipient does not need to wait for reimbursement.
Eligible uses of grant funds depend on the type and structure of the fund.
